Automatic Position Reporting System

On June 19, 2004 our club installed APRS node VE1ARC. It was a project headed up by VE1CFY and VE1II. The system was installed thanks to donations from several club members and the NSARA. Thanks to NSARA for the TNC and Ron VE1AIC for programming it. Thanks to Bruce VE1II for the folded Dipole, Guy VE1NC for the Century II radio, Eric VE1CFY for coax mounting hardware and assembly of the station and Rick VE1RIK and Sue VE1BAT for allowing us to locate the system in their garage. Thanks also to all the folks that helped with the installation of the system.

APRS
is a system developed by Bob Bruninga, WB4APR, which uses amateur radio to transmit position reports, weather reports, and messages between users.

Software is free and allows you to monitor the position of stations via a radio and tnc or by connecting to the internet.

CANAPRS and FINDU are also internet sites that you can search for the location of stations. Another search site is sponsored by VA3TK.

The Tiny Tracker and Open Tracker are interfaces that you connect to a radio and GPS to broadcast your position.
