NEARFEST 2010 On Wednesday April 28
at 0600 Guy VE1NC, Brian VE1RCF, Eric VE1CFY and Jacob VE1JAH left
for NearFest VII in Deerfield, NH. With VE1NC piloting and VE1RCF
navigating we made great time. With the appropriate amount of stops
for food, fuel, the call of nature and a stop at DeLorme Mapping we
arrived in Portsmouth, NH. Thursday morning we checked out the
Kittery Trading Post, the place to shop for anything outdoorsy. Next
stop Ham Radio Outlet in Salem, NH (and we did not find any
witches), a bite of lunch and off to Concord, NH to rest up for all
the walking on Friday and Saturday. Off to NearFest Saturday morning
with the gates opening about 1015 am. We walked for what seemed like
forever but it was only about 6 hours, each of us finding our own
version of treasures. The area consisted of 2 commercial buildings
and many many tailgate sellers. The total area would be about 10
times larger than any of the local Flea Markets. On the way back to
the hotel to rest our tired bodies we stopped for a fantastic feed
of fish at Newick's Lobster House. Thanks to Brian VE1RCF for
knowing about this fantastic place. Saturday morning back to
NearFest to see what new treasures have arrived. Finding a few more
treasures and having VE1CFY be lucky enough to win a door prize, a
Larsen mobile dual bander, we started for home shortly after noon.
We made it to Calais, ME and stopped for the night. Sunday was an
uneventful drive home with a stop for lunch in Truro with a quick
visit from Bruce VE1II to check out our treasures. |
