Repeater News

Over the past 6 months or so our repeaters and linking systems have been giving us a few problems. Brian VE1RCF and Bruce VE1II have been diligently working to overcome our problems in the past few months.

Thanks to their efforts we now own 2 Motorola MSR2000 commercial grade repeaters. Bruce and Brian with great support from Lorne VE1BXK and Brad VE1ZX have made the required modifications to make them operate in the amateur frequencies. The repeaters have been tuned and tested. They seem to be working very well. The repeaters are capable off 110 watts output, but we will be using only 40 watts to ensure no chance of overheating or interfering with other repeaters.

Plans are in the works to install the new repeaters and new mounting racks that were kindly donated by the Kings County ARC. Once they are installed fine tuning will be required.

There has also been some problems with our MAVCOM link on 220 mhz.  We have purchased a Vertex 2000A UHF radio to use as a link radio. The link radio and antenna are installed for testing and we are getting good reports on our signal into the system.

Many thanks to Brian and Bruce for all their hard work. Without their hard work our new system would not be happening. Thanks as well to Lorne and Brad for all the assistance they have given our club. It is greatly appreciated.

Saturday November 10, 2007 our new repeaters and racks were installed.

After a 9 hour day installing and setting up equipment we still had a few bugs to work out. After waking up to a snowstorm which dumped 20cm at the repeater site and put many people in the dark
Bruce VE1II, Brian VE1RCF and Eric VE1CFY went back up Sunday morning for another 4 hour session. The bugs were all found and rectified and all is working well.
Brian VE1RCF and Eric VE1CFY went back up Monday for a short visit to take a few photos and recheck everything.
